Quizlet in live mode is handy for vocabulary and for “I’ve got 5 minutes left, I don’t know what to do”. I think that’s the best way to use this give them between 3-5 at the end of class, but use Kahoot for longer sessions. I once got a group of kids to stick their plicker card in their book, so I could do quick checks at the end of the lesson. It takes a bit more setting up the first time, but quicker than connecting phones every time once you’ve got something in place.

If you don’t want to use phones, try Plickers, which uses cards you can print off and then scan with your phone. It’s not as “fun” as some of the others, but you can do text answers too and it gives you a few more options on pacing. That way it becomes productive and not just receptive. Oh, before I go.when it comes to the Kahoot quizzes, just make sure to incorporate CCQs (concept checking questions) and a bunch of other things in it.for example halfway through, maybe stop and ask them to produce their own sentence on the grammar structure. That's it from me for now :) Check them out they're great resources. Takes up a good 10 mins and can be in conjunction with CCQing etc. If you're not feeling like creating something though you can just look up pre-made ones by other teachers, such as this, just as an example. I've also been using a website called jeopardylabs, which allows you to play the US gameshow jeopardy but create your own questions.
WORDWALL VS KAHOOT FREE
You can make up to 5 free activities or it's.$5.99/month off the top of my head for an unlimited number. My colleagues and I discovered it recently and have been using it a lot! Great for revision activities, but also can be used for freer practice and in many many ways. It's a website that allows you to create some activities/games really easily, or search up the creations of other teachers. I just finished teaching and had too much coffee so forgive my scattered rambling sentences.Ĭheck out "Wordwall".

but especially for those poor kids who spend all day in online classes, how messed up is that? Can you imagine having to do that as a teenager?) (I don't work for Kahoot, don't worry, just a freelance teacher with a real need to make lessons fun, even if just for myself. I've found that even adults go crazy for these quizzes that you can make there's a time-limit to give answers (just like in real life!) and the key ingredient for them being so fun is the suspense of tapping the right box (on their phones) that is otherwise hard to inject in classes.

I work a little for a Portuguese school but they've not given me an ounce of training in four years, so I welcome any suggestions or tips for online lessons from you. Has anyone used this before? Any tips to improve the quizzes?Īnyway I wanted to share this if you hadn't come across it before, and would like to invite you to share any other sites or techniques to put some fun and competition in lessons. I've recently been given a heap of kids classes to teach, and have found to be absolutely brilliant for introducing some healthy competition into the lessons.
